Job Description
Principal BI Developer - Power BI possesses in-depth knowledge and experience to work autonomously and have responsibility for the design, development, and implementation of BI Applications. The role is proficient in the areas of consumption design, development, performance tuning and troubleshooting. Working in a global environment, Individual contributor role that requires strong hands-on approach capable of working across teams and time zones.
Strong hands-on experience in Power BI, M, DAX functions, data warehouse and design, Azure Synapse, SQL databases, and SQL statements, with experience on other Azure cloud data related services.
• Design, develop, and implement custom Power BI reports and dashboards that are visually appealing, easy to use, and meet the needs of the organization.
• Develop and implement complex data models using Power BI's DAX language, data sources, and relationships.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Power BI solutions to ensure optimal performance and stability.
• Collaborate with IT and business teams to understand and prioritize business requirements, recommend solutions, and provide technical guidance and support.
• Develop and maintain Power BI documentation, including data dictionaries, user guides, and knowledge base articles.
• Create and implement data governance policies and processes to ensure data security, accuracy, and consistency.
• Develop and maintain Power BI data sources, including Power BI datasets and Power BI Reports, to ensure that data is up-to-date, accurate, and consistent.
• Implement data refresh and data integration processes to ensure that Power BI dashboards and reports are updated in real-time.
• Provide training and technical support to end-users on how to use Power BI dashboards and reports effectively.
• Stay current with new Power BI features, functionalities, and trends, and continuously learn and expand your knowledge in the field.
• Gather requirements, design, develop, implement, maintain, and manage dashboards, visualizations, and other BI solutions.
• Understands the relevant data needs and coordinates with the data team to deliver meta data models in support of reporting needs.
• Optimize performance (load time) of dashboards, data sources, and reports using best practices.
• Own and maintain non-DB data inputs, such as Excel and other text-based data sources.
• Manage and maintain the scheduling and delivery of reoccurring reports and data extracts.
• Responsible for the organization of assets within the BI applications
• Facilitate Employee Self Service solutions for end users to easily find answers to ad-hoc questions through ease of use and training solutions.
• Work within an Agile methodology to design, develop, test, and implement reporting features and functions to include system enhancements.
• Document, review and improve existing systems while collaborating with teams to integrate new systems and needs.
Job Requirements
Education And Experience
• A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Masters preferred.
• 10+ years of experience working in data warehouse & BI related technologies
• 5+ years of experience developing, implementing and managing Power BI solutions.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
• Proficient in SQL, DAX, and Power BI development.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, and business intelligence.
• Strong experience in building large and complex data models in PowerBI
• Experience with data visualization, report design, and data analysis.
• Experience in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and SQL databases and SQL statements.
• Hands-on experience in ADF using Linked Services/Datasets/Pipeline/ to Extract, Transform, and load data from different sources like Azure SQL, Blob storage, Azure SQL Data warehouse or Synapse or Databricks SQL
• Good exposure in SSIS and SSAS with Tabular Modelling
• Good knowledge and exposure in working with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks or Azure Synapse and PySpark.
• In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework.
• Experience in ad-hoc data analysis, solution design, reporting & dashboard development.
• Power BI certification is an added advantage.
• 2+ years of experience in agile methodologies desired including Agile delivery and testing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
