Overview

 

If you are looking to work on a wide range of technologies, architectures, and IP for next generation products, the Connectivity Technology group is the place for you.  As part of a small, highly skilled team you will work with customers, marketing, product teams, and Skyworks Technology/Manufacturing group to identify critical needs for next generation Connectivity products. You will design, prototype, and validate new PA, Switch, LNA, & analog control circuits with the goal of delivering this IP for integration into the next generation of WiFi FEMs and new product segments.   
 

Job Description

Skyworks Solutions is seeking a Technical Director responsible for architecting the next generation of RF WiFi FEM products. This role involves working with a wide range of technologies including with SiGe HBT, GaAs HBT, CMOS and SOI technologies to develop and deliver next generation power amplifiers. Primary responsibilities include leading architecture tradeoff studies, performing detailed PA design simulations, definition of PA controller requirements, and mentoring other members of the technology team as they simulate & tapeout PA & SOI test vehicles for use in next generation products.  In this position you will also be involved in interfacing with marketing, customers, and product teams as needed to identify critical architecture needs and performance gaps and developing strategies & technology to create market leading solutions.  You will participate in helping to develop and execute the Connectivity technology roadmap and work with corporate technology teams to enable necessary process technologies. While the primary role is focused on PA architecture, the ideal candidate will also have experience with SOI Rx architectures and be able to also provide support & guidance to the SOI IP development team.   The candidate should possess excellent communication skills and have a history of innovation.

Responsibilities

In support of the Connectivity technology roadmap, you will be responsible for exploring new architecture and designing/developing PA/IC test vehicles with a primary focus on power amplifiers and a support focus on controller architecture and SOI/Rx IP. Responsibilities include: 

•    Perform feasibility studies, architecture studies, and lineup analysis for next generation power amplifiers designs & PA controllers.
•    Perform system-level analysis to ensure selection/development of highly competitive Tx & Rx solutions
•    Explore new processes to meet the needs of Connectivity products and define applicable test vehicles for development
•    Engage in all aspects of power amplifier design, simulation, & development using Cadence & ADS design tools
•    Perform comprehensive EM simulation of Power amplifier ICs and associated FEM matching circuits
•    Drive development of PA controller architectures & control features, working closely with SOI/analog team members
•    Supervise & mentor other technology team members and ensure optimal use design flows
•    Provide periodic progress updates and comprehensive summary reports to the product development teams
•    Work with cross-functional teams from Foundry engineering, packaging, and test to realize advance prototypes.
•    Support development and execution of the overall Connectivity Technology roadmap
 

Required Skills

•    BS with 15 years of experience, MSEE/Ph.D. with 12+ years, or Ph.D. with 10+ years
•    Proven skills in PA design and innovation in Silicon or GaAs HBT or CMOS technologies
•    Strong RF fundamentals such as impedance matching, distributed systems, passive RLC and resonant circuits, noise, linearity, bandwidth and stability.
•    Strong knowledge of PA bias & controller requirements and implementations
•    Strong circuit simulation skills utilizing Agilent ADS and 2.5/3D EM tools such as EMX or HFSS
•    Strong problem solving and lab measurement/debugging skills. 
•    Knowledge and advance packaging and CSP technologies applicable to FEM products.
•    Ability to execute project tasks with minimal supervision while collaborating where needed.
•    Solid Oral and written communication skills.


•    Additional Preferred skills:  Experience with SOI technology and Switch or LNA design

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $163,800$324,900 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
