Description
Get hands-on exposure to world-class analog and mixed-signal design across heterogeneous process technologies—from compound-semiconductor platforms (HBT, GaAs) to advanced foundry nodes at 22nm and below. As a PDK Development Intern, you'll support the development and validation of process design kits that design teams rely on: device models, rule decks, and design guidelines. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and gain direct exposure to how PDKs enable production-quality chip design.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining PDK components: device models, pcells, technology files, and DRC/LVS/PEX rule decks
- Support validation of PDK releases against foundry documentation, reference structures, and internal design benchmarks
- Help with device characterization and data collection for HBT and GaAs process technologies
- Assist in enabling foundry technologies at 22nm and above for analog/mixed-signal design IPs, under senior engineer guidance
- Participate in collaboration between foundries, process teams, and design groups to help identify and document PDK issues
- Contribute to regression and QA infrastructure for PDK releases; help maintain version control and release notes
- Take ownership of a defined project or tool improvement over the course of the internship, with mentorship support
Required Experience and Skills
- Currently pursuing a B.Tech/B.E./M.Tech/M.E./M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Coursework or project experience in semiconductor device physics, circuit design, or VLSI/analog design
- Basic familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso or similar CAD/EDA tools (through coursework, personal projects, or prior internships)
- Working knowledge of Python and/or SKILL, or strong general programming fundamentals with willingness to learn
- Ability to read technical documentation and follow structured processes
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn PDK development practices
Desired Experience and Skills
- Coursework or exposure to RF/analog circuit design (power amplifiers, LNAs, switches)
- Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication concepts (passive devices, process corners, high-voltage devices)
- Prior internship, lab, or academic project experience involving device modeling or data analysis
- Interest in foundry/process technology as a career path
- Basic understanding of scripting for automation or QA purposes
The typical pay range for an Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $26.00 - $47.50 per hour and for a Non-Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $22.50 - $42.00 per hour. Starting pay will depend on level of education, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
