Job Description

We are seeking an Applications Engineer to join our Access Applications team. This versatile team is critical to the product line, supporting all areas of product development, including product definition, firmware development, IC validation, software and hardware demo system design, generation of customer design collateral, as well as direct and indirect customer support through our global team of field engineers.  

In this role, the Applications Engineer will collaborate with a talented team while working on products encompassing a wide range of functionality, such as MCU control, motor control, digital communications, and power-over-ethernet.


Collaborate with IC design, systems, validation, and marketing teams to develop new Power products
Design, implement, and test firmware for Power products (power manager, PSE controller, etc.)
Design automated test setups to validate power IC functions across temperature and voltage
Create customer evaluation hardware that provides best-practice PCB layout guidelines for maximum system performance and EMI control
Develop evaluation software demonstrating key features of Power products
Author and maintain application notes, user guides, and whitepapers 
Provide technical assistance to global customers by phone, email, and occasional in-person visits; find creative solutions to help customers solve tough problems
Work with partner companies in developing reference designs using Skyworks’ Access products
Accompany marketing and sales on pre-sale customer visits as the technical product expert


Minimum Requirements 
MS in related field preferred
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in semiconductor applications or hardware engineering
Self-starter with a strong work ethic and sense of accountability
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional team and influence across multiple disciplines
Exceptional problem-solving skills
Experience with a high-level programming or scripting language (C/C++/Python)
Mixed-signal knowledge (DSP, ADCs, MOSFETs, etc.)
Experience with basic laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, etc.)
Experience with schematic capture and PCB design
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)


Preferred Skills 
Experience with project management tools (Jira, Confluence)
Experience providing technical customer support
Experience with regulatory testing, such as EMI and electrical safety
Experience with embedded Linux or other RTOS
Instrument control and test automation 


The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $85,900$164,600 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
