Join the team that’s making EVs go farther, data centers more efficient, and industrial systems smarter! Skyworks’ isolation devices safely connect high voltage systems to the outside world and drive cutting edge GaN and SiC power conversion systems. Our patented technology used in EVs, solar, and even rocket ships has earned us design wins among the biggest and most respected company names in these markets. As a Staff Applications Engineer, you will be a part of a versatile team that supports all areas of product development including product definitions, generation of customer design collateral, support design validation, as well as provide direct and indirect customer support through our global team of field engineers. This is a high-impact role in a dynamic work environment, and your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Collaborate with IC design, systems and marketing teams to define new Power and Isolation products
  • Provide technical assistance to a global customer base, primarily via our customer support system, but occasionally in-person
  • Develop customer evaluation hardware that provides best-practice layout guidelines for maximum EMI control
  • Develop creative demonstration hardware and solutions to support pre-sale customer demonstrations and trade shows
  • Author and maintain written collateral, such as application notes, user guides and whitepapers
  • Author and deliver written, video and live training material to customers and our field teams
  • Develop custom hardware solutions to help customers solve tough problems
  • Work with partner companies to develop reference designs using Skyworks products
  • Conduct detailed electrical analysis of competitive solutions to facilitate understanding of the competitive landscape
  • Provide mentorship to more junior engineers
  • Understand safety certifications at component or system levels (UL, CSA, CQC, VDE, IEC, EN, etc.)

Must be comfortable explaining technical concepts to a wide range of audiences including more senior engineers and management teams

You should have a disciplined approach to your work. We track and administer our work using task management tools and other collaboration tools to properly document work plans and work outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent

  • 5+ years of working in the semiconductor or power electronics industry

  • Strong analog and digital circuit analysis skills

  • Experience with regulatory testing, such as EMI or electrical safety

  • Strong understanding of power switching circuits

  • Experience supporting customers in a related industry

  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools

  • Ability to prepare technical reports to provide clarity to customers when written communication is ineffective

  • Strong and methodical problem-solving skills

  • Strong hands-on laboratory skills

  • Some working knowledge of a high-level programming or scripting language

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

  • Willingness and eligibility to travel internationally on occasion to support critical customer issues or serve as technical subject matter expert on customer visits

Preferable Skills

 

  • Experience in the design or testing of power switching circuits
  • Experience supporting automotive or industrial systems
  • A great attitude with an eagerness to learn and facility to adapt to changes in plans and new technical challenges

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $110,600$210,600 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
