We are seeking a winter/spring Co-op Intern to support the modeling, simulation, and development of advanced compound semiconductor epitaxial structures using TCAD tools, with a focus on GaAs and GaN technologies. The intern will assist in developing and calibrating process and device simulations, analyzing experimental and characterization data, and optimizing epitaxial layer designs for RF, power, and optoelectronic applications. A key responsibility will be the development of next-generation epitaxial structures using AI/ML techniques, including data-driven modeling, design optimization, and predictive analytics to accelerate epitaxial innovation and performance improvements. The intern will collaborate with device, process, and epitaxy engineers to validate simulation results, explore new design concepts, and document findings that support technology development and product roadmap objectives.
Co-op duration: up to 6 months January - June 2027
Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate new epitaxial structures through ML/AI Driven Epi Development
- Define machine learning models for epitaxial development
- Setup/automate TCAD simulations for model training
- Investigate optimization routines for ML training
- Validate optimized epitaxial structures through device test
Required Experience and Skills
- Must be currently enrolled in a PhD graduate program, studying Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Knowledge in Device Simulation Platforms [Sentaurus, Silvaco]
- Knowledge in ML/AI models
Desired Experience and Skills
- Strong Computer Programming skills [Python]
- Understanding of Compound Semiconductor (GaAs and/or GaN based devices) stack-ups and their influence on device performance
- Basic understanding of device fabrication process steps, yield analysis and DC/RF device parameters are a plus
- Strong communication skills needed, both written and verbal.
The typical pay range for an Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $26.00 - $47.50 per hour and for a Non-Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $22.50 - $42.00 per hour. Starting pay will depend on level of education, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
