Job Description

Skyworks Solutions seeks an RF Characterization Engineer who will play a key role in the development of Skyworks’ acoustic SAW/BAW technologies. This engineer will support the R&D group in terms of characterization and analysis, in addition to develop advanced metrology systems to support technology breakthrough. He / She will be focused on supporting characterization and analysis of MEMS devices worldwide working closely with both US and Asian engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Work seamlessly as a member of Skyworks’ Acoustic Device Development Group (DDG) to advance BAW/SAW and other MEMS technologies.
  • Advance the characterization and analysis of RF MEMS devices including S-parameters, hot S-parameters, load-pull, IMD & harmonics generation, noise emissions, and thermal measurement.
  • Enhance the capability of existing advanced metrology systems including acoustic vibrometers and thermal imagers.
  • Develop new test solutions required to understand the capabilities and limits of state-of-the-art MEMS devices.
  • Lead RF test characterization laboratory to improve device/circuit modeling & characterization by investigating, designing, and proposing novel characterization solutions.
  • Partner with suppliers and industry experts to evaluate superior RF test solutions to obtain reconfigurable test systems with a high dynamic range, or a low noise floor, and/or other critical test metrics.
  • Determine component specifications required to enable advanced measurement systems.
  • Enable automation to gather on-wafer device statistics.
  • Analyze / process characterization data for use by design and/or modeling teams.  
  • Collaborate with modeling & design engineers on model development through design of experiments.
  • Manage laboratory activities and acquisition of laboratory equipment and components

 

Key outcomes that are desired:

  • Accelerate BAW/SAW roadmap for next generation size, performance and cost.
  • Provide leadership in understanding and identifying power, strain, electric field, and other limitations of materials.
  • Contribute to a seamless interface between BAW/SAW development teams in the US and Asia.

Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry is required. PhD degree is preferred.
  • A proven track record as a team player on an engineering team, preferably with experience functioning effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated skills in advanced RF characterization -- S-parameters, hot S-parameters, load pull, IMD & harmonics generation, noise emissions, and thermal measurement. 
  • Deep understanding and knowledge electromagnetic theory and circuit design.
  • Deep understanding in either semiconductors and/or acoustic devices.
  • Knowledge in semiconductor process or MEMS technology is desirable.
  • Knowledge in scripting, especially with Matlab and/or Python, as well as ADS.
  • Strong skills in data analytics is desirable.
  • Demonstrated strong communication /presentation skills.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and experience in working with test methodologies and analysis for semiconductor and/or MEMS devices. Knowledge of BAW/SAW devices is a big plus. The candidate will have the ability to function effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic environment and must also be able to collaborate well with other engineers to achieve divisional objectives. The candidate will help to manage and sustain the characterization lab located in Irvine CA. The candidate may be asked to travel to Asia to collaborate across different design and development engineering sites to proliferate test solutions that he/she has developed.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $85,900$164,600 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
