Senior RF Characterization Development Engineer

Skyworks Solutions seeks a senior RF characterization development engineer who will play a key role in the development of Skyworks' SAW/BAW and MEMs technologies. This engineer will not only develop new characterization systems but will also have the opportunity and responsibility to enhance the capability of existing advanced metrology systems including acoustic vibrometers and thermal imagers. He / She will be focused on supporting characterization of MEMs devices worldwide working closely with both US and Asian engineering teams.

Key responsibilities: 
• Work seamlessly as a member of Skyworks' Device Development Group to advance BAW/SAW and other MEMs technologies.
• Advance the characterization of RF MEMs devices focusing on BAW/SAW devices including: S-parameters, hot S-parameters, load-pull, IMD & harmonics generation, noise emissions, and thermal measurement.
• Enhance the capability of existing advanced metrology systems including acoustic vibrometers and thermal imagers.
• Develop new test solutions required to understand the capabilities and limits of state-of-the-art MEMs devices.
• Lead RF test characterization laboratory to improve device/circuit modeling & characterization by investigating, designing, and proposing novel characterization solutions.
• Partner with suppliers and industry experts to evaluate superior RF test solutions to obtain reconfigurable test systems with a high dynamic range, or a low noise floor, and/or other critical test metrics. 
• Determine component specifications required to enable advanced measurement systems. 
• Enable automation to gather on-wafer device statistics.
• Analyze / process characterization data for use by design and/or modeling teams.  
• Collaborate with modeling & design engineers on model development through design of experiments.
• Manage laboratory activities and the acquisition of laboratory CAPEX.  


Key outcomes that are desired:
• Accelerate BAW/SAW roadmap for next generation size, performance and cost.
• Provide leadership in understanding and identifying power, strain, electric field, and other limitations of materials.
• Contribute to a seamless interface between BAW/SAW development teams in the US and Asia.


• 10 years of relevant advanced RF characterization experience. 
• 5 years of demonstrated technical leadership.
• Master's Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry is required. PhD degree is preferred.
• A proven track record as a team player on an engineering team, preferably with experience functioning effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic engineering environment.
• Demonstrated skills in advanced RF characterization -- S-parameters, hot S-parameters, loadpull, IMD & harmonics generation, noise emissions, and thermal measurement.  
• Deep understanding and knowledge electromagnetic theory and circuit design.
• Deep understanding in either semiconductors and/or acoustic devices.
• Knowledge in semiconductor process or MEMs technology is desirable.
• Strong skills in data analytics -- programming & scripting -- is desirable.
• Demonstrated strong communication /presentation skills.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.


Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and experience in working with semiconductor and/or MEMs devices and test methodologies required by such devices. Knowledge of BAW/SAW devices is a big plus.  The candidate will have the ability to function effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic environment and must also be able to collaborate well with other engineers to achieve divisional objectives. The candidate will help to management the characterization lab located in Irvine CA. The candidate may be asked to travel to Asia to collaborate across different design and development engineering sites to proliferate test solutions that he/she has developed.
