This position is for a RF Sr. Principal Systems Engineer in the Diversified Analog Solutions Business Unit (DAS) Division in Skyworks Irvine, CA design center.

The successful candidate will possess an excellent understanding of Cellular Systems (3GPP/NR/LTE), with a focus on cellular infrastructure / handset radio architectures/implementations/designs, excellent leadership/customer skills, be a driven & committed team player, and have excellent communication skills. This Wireless RF System position’s core focus will be to drive our understanding of key system requirements for RF blocks such as PA/LNA/Switches based on evolving cellular infrastructure standards, customer usage scenarios and partner Wireless SoC features. In this role you will also be involved in enabling test and applications engineering teams with state-of-the-art measurement benches to validate the requirements utilizing standard test equipment and partner SoC development platforms.

 

Our Systems Engineers are responsible for driving our long-term architectural roadmap by setting device specifications, validation requirements, and driving our customers towards our vision of the future. The successful candidate will serve as a key technical specialist in the area of 3GPP cellular infrastructure wireless standards for the business unit. This is a highly visible position reporting to the Director of Systems Engineering. The position involves working closely with Marketing, Design, Applications and Customer/Partner Engineering teams.

Job Description

 

The work will include but not be limited to the following:

 

  • Assess cellular wireless system specifications and act as a technical subject matter expert in wireless systems as it pertains to new RF technologies and products
  • Derive specifications and worst-case modulated waveforms for simulations, measurements and validation
  • Possess a deep understanding of DSP assisted RF systems impairment algorithms such as Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD), Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) etc. and translate to validation test platforms around high-performance RF PA/LNA products
  • System Level simulations and architecture/optimization studies in areas such as power efficiency enhancement techniques for power amplifiers.
  • Work with applications/customer/partner engineering teams to collaboratively enable test platforms to validate new requirements and techniques in a hands-on manner.
  • Engage with Wireless SoC partners to co-develop specifications of RF systems impairments and other features affecting performance of RF products.

 

Skills

 

  • BSEE with 10+ years’ experience or MSEE with 8+ years’ experience with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong Experience with wireless test platforms (Keysight/NI etc.) and other Wireless SoC/FPGA platforms.
  • Good understanding of Layer-1 / PHY for LTE/4G/5G/6G or equivalent standards for communication systems.
  • Good experience in signal processing theory and algorithm development experience as it applies to RF impairments assessment.
  • Strong coding and programming skills (C/C++, Matlab/Simulink, Labview or similar preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team setting with people of complementary skills and backgrounds.
