Description

The Sr. Payroll Manager is a vital member of the Accounting team, responsible for overseeing and executing multi-state payroll operations within an in-house environment. This hands-on role manages the full cycle of payroll processing, ensures accurate and timely reporting, and provides leadership and support to a team of direct reports. The ideal candidate is a proactive and detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced setting, consistently meets deadlines, and fosters a culture of excellence.

This position reports to the Director of Accounting and is based in Irvine, California. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with laws, rules and regulations (may involve making sure the system is configured to calculate amounts correctly).
  • Submit tickets for required system changes and proactively ensure that the changes are made and appropriately tested.
  • Ensure all payroll regulatory filings are completed in line with statutory due dates.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.  Identify transactions that may have an impact on the general ledger and bring them to the attention of the Payroll Director or GL Manager.
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of payroll internal controls.
  • Lead audits of payroll and payroll related data. Oversee and manage all payroll reporting - standard and ad hoc.
  • Oversee, manage and research any payroll related questions that employees may have.  Prepare communications to employees.
  • Develop partnerships with HR, Accounting, IT, Tax and Legal to collaborate on systems and solutions.  Manage relationships with payroll providers.
  • Supervise, train and develop payroll staff.
  • Oversee and process bi-weekly in-house payroll for all US employees as well as off-cycle payments as needed.
  • Oversee and process transactions related to new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, salary changes, payroll taxes, deductions, direct deposits, retroactive adjustments, garnishments, relocations, stock awards, option exercises and more.
  • Oversee the processing and review of year end filings such as W-2s and W-2C's as required.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Position requires a BS degree and 5 years experience.  Preference for 8+ years’ experience processing payroll in a large multi-state environment (2,500+ employees) with prior experience supervising/managing payroll staff.
  • Experience operating in a multinational country environment. 
  • Excellent understanding of payroll processes, systems, and practices with knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations.
  • Dependable highly motivated team leader, with a great attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lead, manage and inspire team members.  Treat individuals with respect, keep commitments, inspire the trust of others, work ethically and with integrity, uphold organizational values and maintain accountability for own actions.
  • Well organized and able to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to research, evaluate and analyze inquiries relating to payroll issues and take appropriate action to resolve.
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information.
  • Proficient in computer usage and related software applications, specifically the Microsoft Office suite.
  • SAP experience is a plus.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $114,400 - $220,200 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
