Description
L1 Support Specialist, supporting a Linux/UNIX-based development environment, a Linux/UNIX-based server environment and Windows-based user environment
Responsibilities
As an L1 Support Specialist, your key responsibilities will include monitoring system performance, managing user accounts, maintaining file systems, and resolving first-level incidents. You will work closely with developers, engineers, and IT teams to troubleshoot issues related to build environments, software tools, and network connectivity. Additionally, you will contribute to maintaining security compliance, documenting solutions, and enhancing our knowledge base to ensure efficient workflows across the organization.
Required Experience and Skills
Experience: +2 years Basic Linux/UNIX knowledge, file system management and admin skills experience, including OS, compute/storage infrastructure, scripting, supporting virtual desktop environments.
Education: IT Technical Support, Windows/ Linux/Unix certificate program, or equivalent experience
Skills: Good written and verbal English language skills (90%), Experience with Linux enterprise environment, Python/bash Scripting, Issue Tracking/Ticketing system operations and management, problem solving skills, customer service mindset, enterprise computer security awareness. Windows OS, Windows PC, Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory knowledge are also nice to have skills for this position.
- Basic Linux/UNIX Knowledge: Proficiency in using Linux commands (e.g., ls, grep, chmod, ps, etc.) and understanding of shell scripting fundamentals, remote system login (sudo / ssh / rsh)
- File System and Permissions Management: Ability to manage directories, file permissions, and file/space quotas for users and projects in a Linux/UNIX environment.
- Networking Basics: Familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, rsh, and basic troubleshooting commands like ping, traceroute, and ip config.
- Issue Tracking Tools: Good experience with support ticketing systems like JIRA, Jira Service Manager, ServiceNow, Zendesk or equivalent platforms to log and track incidents.
- Automation Basics: Exposure to automation tools and being able to perform simple scripting using shell scripts, Perl, bash, or Python for routine tasks.
- Customer Service Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities to support end users effectively and document solutions clearly.
- Security Awareness: Understanding of fundamental security principles, such as SSH key management, password policies, and system patching.
- Active Listening: Demonstrated ability to actively listen and comprehend spoken information and instructions, ensuring mutual understanding.
Desired Experience and Skills
- Bonus: Use of Monitoring Applications Such as: AppDynamics DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Greylog, LibreNMS
- Bonus: Virtual Desktop Environment: Support of eXceed on Demand/ TurboX / ETX or similar virtual desktop environment for developers and engineers.
