Electrical Engineer - Characterization

Skyworks Solutions is looking for a self-motivated, passionate Electrical Engineer to play an important role in wafer level characterization and validation of GaAs, SOI, and SiGe devices, passive components, and circuits as well as develop board-level solutions for characterization and emulation platforms.

You will be an integral part of GaAs Advanced Technology Group here at Skyworks and this group is responsible for III-Vs epi, device, and process technology development for our industry leading communications products. You will be working closely with other device, modeling, and design engineers to coordinate device development efforts for next generation RF microelectronics products.

You will be a key contributor in a high-energy device technology development environment and will eventually assume responsibility for leading independent development projects. Key Responsibilities:

  • Wafer level characterization plans for GaAs, SOI, and SiGe devices, passive components, and circuits.
  • Programming automatic and semi-automatic wafer probe stations for automated data acquisition for device modeling, statistical and mismatch analysis, and export to database for use by the Device Design and Modeling team.
  • Development and application of advanced RF characterization techniques for RF noise, linearity, power, large-signal, self-heating, thermal (pulsed I-V), and low-frequency flicker-noise characterization.
  • Perform RF load pull characterization of devices on a Maury on-wafer Load Pull System. This includes performing system calibration, test fixture development/assembly, and data collection of power sweeps and load pull contours.
  • Design and layout of test structures using Cadence Virtuoso in support of advanced process and circuit development.
  • Experience with extracting and analyzing data to discover underlying causes of device. behavior and develop creative solutions for improved device and/or processes.
  • Assist Design teams with understanding of device/circuit performance interactions.


Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of device characterization experience.
  • B.S. (MS/Ph.D. preferred) or equivalent technical degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with knowledge of compound semiconductor materials and device characterization, epitaxy and/or device properties.
  • Experience with parametric analyzers, CV-meters or impedance analyzers, vector network analyzers, on-wafer loadpull systems, non-linear VNAs.
  • Experience in DC, CV, RF, on-wafer loadpull characterization, and non-linear (NVNA) device characterization. Expertise in advanced RF characterization is strongly desired (hands-on experience with Maury on-wafer loadpull/non-linear device characterization or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated knowledge in HBT & FET devices and models (physical and compact). Solid understanding of III-V device physics and device processing is a plus.
  • Direct experience with IC-CAP environment. Strong C/C++, PEL, and Python programming experience is a big plus.
  • Knowledge of CAD tools such as ADS, Momentum, HFSS, Cadence Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Extensive experienced in statistical data analysis.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment.
