Job Description



This position is for the Mobile Solutions Business (MSB) Central Engineering Leader reporting directly to the BU GM/SVP and running a large team of 40-50 personnel supporting all MSB product teams. The successful candidate will possess an excellent understanding of Process Technology, Integrated Circuit (IC) and Multi-Chip Module (MCM) Layout, RF/Analog Design Automation tools, IC/Module design methodology and ideally have an understanding of Cellular Systems and RF Products. The candidate must possess excellent leadership and customer skills, be a driven & committed team player, have excellent communication skills, and manage across multiple peers to drive BU-wide Process/Package/Cost/EDA/Productivity roadmaps and to set and implement design methodology across all MSB product teams. Additionally, our Central Engineering Leader is responsible for all IC and MCM layout teams, our custom software team, and manages our IC design contractors. Longer term, for the right candidate, there is scope for expansion of the role to cover other Central Engineering functions across MSB. As Skyworks MSB Central Engineering leader, you will have a uniquely large impact on the success of the BU and the company by driving all aspects of product development across a 600+ person organization.


Our Central Engineering leader's core focus will be to drive our roadmaps, design methodology, custom software team, and IC/MCM layout group. There is a heavy internal customer facing component that makes working laterally across your peers to drive and implement change a key component of this position. The position involves working closely with our internal product team leaders, and internal technology/manufacturing teams. 


Job Responsibilities

The work will include but not be limited to the following:
o    Driving and Managing the MSB Process Technology roadmap, this includes
o    Determination of the performance requirements
o    The cost/performance trade-offs
o    Benchmarking of cost/NRE/performance/cycle-time across nodes
o    Making final priority calls on which technologies to focus on and invest in
o    Deciding which technologies are approved for product teams use
o    Driving and Managing the MSB Package Technology roadmap, this includes
o    Determination of the next generation requirements for size, height, and isolation
o    Preliminary floor planning to drive focus technologies
o    Benchmarking of cost/NRE/performance/cycle-time across package options
o    Making final priority calls on which technologies to focus on and invest in
o    Driving and Managing the MSB Design Automation Tool roadmap with our internal EDA team and driving aligned tool flows across all MSB teams that maximize productivity and minimize EDA spend
o    Driving, Managing, and Implementing the MSB Productivity roadmap via our custom software team and with internal/external support 
o    Driving, Managing, and Implementing the MSB Cost reduction roadmap via new technologies, new IP cores, and alternative vendors
o    Setting and ensuring successful implementation of a single, unified, MSB design methodology
o    This encompasses all aspects of product development in MSB
o    This necessitates both the ability to work laterally across our large engineering organization, driving convergence across multiple teams, and the ability to drive change 
o    Design Methodology includes our design checklists, automated tool flows, design flows, training, documentation requirements, and design review/tape-out approval requirements
o    Managing all MSB IC and MCM layout teams; a 40+ person internal organization and IC layout contractors
o    Managing our pool of > 15 external IC design contractors 
o    Managing our custom software team that implements productivity improvement software
o    Owning all aspects of our SOI/Si/HBT IP libraries and ensuring a single set of converged, proven, cells used by all teams across MSB


BSEE or MSEE with 15+ years of related experience; 10+ years of experience in RF Systems.

Excellent communications and leadership skills, a passion to win/contribute, ability to work in and thrive in a team environment.

Detailed knowledge of process technology, IC/Module design methodology, Analog/RF IC layout, and exposure to Cellular systems and RF products.

The candidate must be able to work across multiple peer groups to set and implement roadmaps, methodologies, and strategies that drive alignment across all BU product teams and multiple manufacturing/support teams.
