This position is for an RF/EM Intern Design Engineer intern in the Mobile Solutions (MSB) Division in Skyworks Newbury Park, CA design center as part of a group of RF/EM design engineers in support of high-volume power amplifier and filter products  for wireless mobile applications. The successful candidate will possess a reasonable understanding of electromagnetic and RF and be a driven, committed team player. Our EM/RF design team is responsible for supporting design and simulation of passive aspects of power amplifier module including output matching networks, integrated passive devices, high-directivity daisy-chain couplers, harmonic filters, and high isolation layouts for SAW/FBAR duplexers.


Detailed Description:

Our RF/EM Design Interns will help to improve design of passive RF circuit designs in a fast-paced team environment. It is required to work closely with project design engineers to produce optimal co-simulation results.


Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Adapting to best MCM design and PA Co-simulation methodologies
  • Designing semi-lumped RF matching networks in a PCB environment
  • Designing Integrated Passive Devices
  • Designing high-isolation laminate layouts to support high-rejection SAW and BAW filters
  • Participating design reviews
  • Performing lab testing using RF test equipment


The circuit blocks involved in a typical product development may include:

  • Power Amplifiers
  • Integrated Passive Devices
  • SAW/BAW Duplexers & High-Q RF Filters
  • Switches
  • Power Detectors
  • Matching circuits
  • High-directivity couplers


Software Tools Used are:

  • Ansoft HFSS,
  • Agilent ADS and Momentum
  • Matlab
  • Excel
  • Microsoft Office/Outlook


Hardware Tools Used are:

  • Network Analyzers
  • Spectrum Analyzers
  • Signal Generators
  • Digital Receivers
  • Load-Pull/Tuners
  • RF Probe Stations



  • MSEE or PhD candidate, or equivalent
  • Must be returning to school following the Co-Op
  • Able to commit to the Winter/ Spring 2019 Co-Op Program which goes from July- Dec2019
  • A passion to win/contribute
  • Ability to work in, and thrive in, a team environment
  • Familiar with ADS /HFSS, or similar simulation tools to assist in design evaluation and
  • Completed coursework in RF, Microwave/Antenna, or Wireless Technologies (i.e. Smith Chart and S Parameters)
  • Exposure to RF tools such as Function Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, etc.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), organization, and documentation skills
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
