Manager, Accounting

Summary

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Manages the development, implementation and/or maintenance of one or more accounting systems: Journal entries, General Ledger, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, Revenue Reconciliation, Cash Flows, etc. in accordance with GAAP policies and procedures. Designs operational procedures and processes that meet audit standards and improve efficiency. Ensures integration of data produced into systems and supports objectives of financial analysts. Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and revenue. Participates in annual audits and special projects. May work with external consultants or auditors to provide required information and ensure proper recordkeeping for historical purposes. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, payroll, and fixed assets. Working directly with local and corporate counterparties on these areas. 
• Prepare, review, and approve general ledger entries and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy. Timely reporting to corporate office for monthly consolidation. 
• Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, ensuring tasks are completed in an accurate and timely manner.  
• Follow internal controls to safeguard financial information and prevent fraud. 
• Prepare annual financial statements in compliance with Japanese GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).  
• Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit process and ensure that all financial documents are compliant. 
• Ensure compliance with Japanese tax laws, including consumption tax, corporate tax, and other local taxes. 
• Provide support needed to tax team/consultants to prepare and file tax returns in accordance with Japanese tax regulations. 
• Work closely with other departments (e.g., HR, Legal, Operations) to resolve accounting issues and ensure smooth financial operations. 
• Collaborate with and global finance teams to ensure alignment with corporate financial goals and reporting requirements. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.  
• In-depth knowledge of Japanese accounting regulations and tax laws (JP GAAP, J-SOX) 
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.  
• Strong proficiency in accounting software, SAP preferred.   
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.).  
• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.  
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.  
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
• Experience in a multinational company a plus
