Job Description: 

RF Lab Manager

The individual chosen for this position will be a member of an engineering team responsible for managing a Laboratory. Working with a talented team, you will collaborate across the site to identify and source new component needs, manage multiple calibration schedules, and ensure sufficient inventory of off-the-shelf lab supplies to support the team’s dynamic needs. The successful candidate will be an effective problem solver and a proactive process owner.

Responsibilities

Lab Training & Onboarding (New Hires and Existing Staff)

  • Deliver recurring training for new and current engineers on lab rules, equipment-handling expectations, safety requirements, and ESD standards.
  • Maintain and update lab documentation, quick‑start guides, and reference materials.
  • Serve as the escalation point for lab‑usage concerns and troubleshooting.

 

Lab Infrastructure & Facilities Management

  • Oversee lab space planning and organization.
  • Coordinate with Facilities teams on renovations, expansions, reconfigurations, and electrical/HVAC modifications.
  • Design and optimize lab layouts for efficiency, safety, and long‑term scalability.
  • Lead efforts to standardize lab benches and workstations.

 

ESD Program Ownership

  • Conduct quarterly ESD monitoring and assessments.
  • Ensure proper grounding of benches and equipment.
  • Enforce ESD compliance through routine audits, signage, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate ESD training for engineers, contractors, and visitors.
  • Maintain ESD documentation and audit records.

 

Lab Safety & Compliance Leadership

  • Manage chemical handling and disposal, including maintenance of SDS documentation.
  • Maintain safety signage, procedures, and compliance records.
  • Coordinate safety inspections, follow-ups, and corrective action plans.

 

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Manage inventory for small lab items and consumables.
  • Oversee equipment loans, tracking, and return processes to ensure accountability and availability.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support correlation activities and other cross-team initiatives as required.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience managing inventory, equipment, or lab assets.
  • Preferably has hands-on, practical experience in a lab or technical environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize processes, improve efficiency, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem solving skills, with a process oriented mindset.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • An understanding of basic RF measurement equipment.
  • Experience with the following tools is considered a strong asset:
    • RF spectrum analyzers
    • Vector network analyzers
    • Multimeters
    • Power meters
    • RF amplifiers
    • Power supplies
    • Probe stations
    • RF sources
  • Understanding of RF component characteristics, performance trade offs, and application considerations

The typical total targeted cash range for this role is currently CAD $92,555 - $120,322 per year. Starting compensation will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, and the ultimate job duties and requirements.
