Description

The Process Engineer is responsible for sustaining, monitoring, improving, and troubleshooting semiconductor manufacturing processes to achieve production, yield, quality, cost, and cycle-time targets. The role involves daily support of wafer fabrication operations, process characterization, defect reduction, equipment qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Process Integration, Yield Enhancement, Quality, and Industrial Engineering teams to ensure stable and efficient factory operations while supporting new technology and product introductions.

Responsibilities

  • Develops new or modified process formulations, defines processing or handling equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of products. Involvement may begin at any step from pilot plant to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Coordinates design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure compatibility of processing methods.
  • Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.
  • May conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment automation technology, and approaches in the processing or development of new or improved processes.

Required Experience and Skills

Key Responsibilities

Process Sustaining and Manufacturing Support

  • Monitor and maintain process performance to ensure compliance with quality and production requirements.
  • Provide engineering support for daily manufacturing operations and process-related issues.
  • Investigate process excursions and implement corrective actions to minimize impact to production.
  • Review process data and identify trends affecting yield, quality, and productivity.
  • Respond to line issues and support escalation management when necessary.

Process Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process capability, stability, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Analyze process performance metrics and recommend improvement actions.
  • Support defect reduction and yield improvement projects.
  • Participate in process optimization activities to improve throughput and cost competitiveness.
  • Utilize statistical tools and data analysis techniques to identify process improvement opportunities.

Problem Solving and Troubleshooting

  • Perform root cause analysis for process-related yield, quality, and reliability issues.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as:
    • 8D
    • DMAIC
    • Fishbone Analysis
    • 5 Why
    • FMEA
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Equipment and Process Qualification

  • Support installation, qualification, and release of new equipment and process technologies.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations and process experiments.
  • Execute process qualifications following established procedures and quality requirements.
  • Work closely with Equipment Engineering to improve tool performance and process capability.

Yield and Quality Improvement

  • Analyze wafer maps, SPC charts, defect data, and parametric performance.
  • Support yield enhancement activities and defect reduction programs.
  • Participate in customer issue investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure process compliance with internal specifications and customer requirements.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Monitor key process indicators and generate regular engineering reports.
  • Utilize manufacturing systems and data analysis tools for process monitoring and optimization.
  • Present process performance updates and improvement plans during engineering reviews.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Develop and update process specifications, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Support internal audits and customer audits as needed.
  • Participate in risk assessments and process change management activities.

Desired Experience and Skills

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Materials Science
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Physics
    • Semiconductor Engineering
    • Other related Engineering disciplines

Experience

  • Fresh graduates with strong academic performance are encouraged to apply.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, wafer fabrication, or related high-technology industries is preferred.
  • Experience in one or more semiconductor process modules is an advantage:
    • Photolithography
    • Etch
    • Thin Film (PVD/CVD/ALD)
