Job Title: Senior Equipment Engineer

Location: Singapore

Department: Equipment for Coat/Expose/Develop/Wafer Bonder

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Job Summary

Ensure the stability, reliability, and optimal performance of coater and developer equipment.Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of current preventive maintenance practices.Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to identify and resolve chronic equipment and process issues.Manage and maintain adequate levels of consumables and spare parts to support operational requirements.Perform Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) monitoring and drive corrective actions when required.Lead alarm reduction initiatives to minimize equipment interruptions and improve operational efficiency.Drive equipment uptime improvement through reliability enhancement and continuous improvement projects.Support and execute machine relocation activities, including planning, installation, qualification, and ramp-up.

Responsibilities

Equipment Reliability & Performance

  • Lead efforts to improve equipment uptime, availability, reliability, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Analyze equipment performance trends and implement corrective actions to improve productivity.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring equipment issues.
  • Develop and execute equipment maintenance and optimization strategies.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for assigned manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting of complex mechanical, electrical, automation, vacuum, and process-related issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to Equipment Engineers, Associate Engineers, and Technicians.
  • Review and approve equipment modifications, upgrades, and qualification activities.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive yield improvement and cost reduction projects.
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Lead initiatives to improve equipment efficiency, cycle time, and manufacturing throughput.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors on upgrades and performance enhancements.

New Equipment Introduction/Parts retrofitting

  • Support equipment selection, procurement, installation, qualification, and commissioning.
  • Develop qualification plans and acceptance criteria for new tools.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Quality teams during equipment deployment.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with company safety requirements and EHS standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and establish safe operating procedures.
  • Support audits and ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Required Experience and Skills

Education and Experience

  • Degree requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Microelectronics Engineering.
  • Industry experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years (often up to 6–8 years for senior tiers) working directly in a semiconductor wafer fab or high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Tool ownership: Proven track record acting as an equipment owner for complex photolithography systems.

Technical and Core Skills

  • System expertise: Hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance of exposure tools, steppers, scanners, and track coat/develop systems.
  • Process knowledge: Deep grasp of lithography principles, optics, overlay, focus-exposure optimization, and semiconductor process integration.
  • Quality and problem-solving: Proficiency in structured methodologies like Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 8D root-cause problem solving and etc.

Maintenance strategy:

  • Experience structuring preventive maintenance (PM) programs, total productive maintenance (TPM), and driving continuous improvement in equipment uptime and availability.

Soft Skills and Leadership

  • Leadership: Ability to guide, mentor, and lead junior engineers or a group of technical specialists and maintenance technicians.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional manufacturing, process, and integration teams.
  • Work style: Self-driven, analytical, and comfortable diving into hands-on technical details under pressure in a fast-paced cleanroom environment.
