2027 Summer Engineering Intern - Technology Characterization & AI Automation

We are seeking a highly motivated Summer Engineering Intern to join our Advanced Development Team, a group of device, process, and circuit design experts focused on developing state-of-the-art GaAs and InP technologies for high-frequency, high-power RF applications. This role combines semiconductor technology, data science, automation, and artificial intelligence to accelerate engineering innovation. The intern will work with device, process, and test engineers to develop AI-powered solutions for characterization, knowledge discovery, workflow automation, and technical reporting.
Assignment duration: 3 months during May - August 2027
Responsibilities
- Support characterization of advanced semiconductor devices, passive components, and RF circuits.
- Develop AI-assisted workflows for measurement execution, data collection, analysis, and report generation.
- Create software tools and scripts to improve engineering productivity and laboratory efficiency.
- Apply machine learning and analytics to identify trends, anomalies, and performance drivers in large datasets.
- Build dashboards and visualization tools for technology performance monitoring.
- Develop intelligent knowledge-discovery systems leveraging engineering data and documentation.
- Explore Generative AI and LLM applications for automated reporting and engineering insights.
- Support automated test development, instrumentation control, and data acquisition systems.
- Document findings and present recommendations to engineering teams.
Required Experience and Skills
- Must be currently enrolled in a PhD graduate program, studying Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Interest in AI, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, and Generative AI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Experience and Skills
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
- Knowledge of LLMs, AI agents, or RAG systems.
- Experience with laboratory automation and instrument control.
- Understanding of semiconductor devices, RF concepts, or manufacturing processes.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, SQL, or cloud data platforms.

The typical pay range for an Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $26.00 - $47.50 per hour and for a Non-Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $22.50 - $42.00 per hour. Starting pay will depend on level of education, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
