Industrial Engineer

As an Industrial Engineer at Skyworks, Inc., you will be responsible for applying IE concepts to drive improvements in capacity, cycle time, capital asset management, and production at our wafer fabrication facility in Woburn, Massachusetts. Explore and implement industry best known methods to meet key performance indicators of the company. This position serves as a connection point between functional groups within the operations sphere providing experience with professionals in Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Logistics, Finance, and Engineering. Must convey professional image with the ability to lead, manage, and communicate to all levels of associates in a team environment.

Data-driven and utilize analytical problem solving methodologies to identify manufacturing constraints, optimize WIP flow and improving overall equipment effectiveness. Maintain capacity models and use mathematical modeling to calculate and predict capacity requirements for the wafer fab. Must be able to operate in fast-paced operations with the ability to handle multiple priorities at the same time, have excellent organizational, project management and people skills.

To excel in meeting the companies objectives, the individual will be expected to:  take a high energy approach to managing a large volume of work and competing priorities while leveraging their leadership skills, coordination and attention to detail in order to provide a high quality level of work.   

Typical Duties

  • Maintain the accuracy of the capacity model via regular audits
  • Run what-if scenarios for tactical and strategic planning needs
  • Project management of new capital installations and existing tool relocations
  • Workstation and workflow setup and optimization
  • Maximize constraint tool productivity
  • Lead OEE teams utilizing Six Sigma process management techniques (DMAIC, etc.)
  • Initiate and drive Cycle Time reduction projects utilizing ToC and Queueing Theory concepts


  • Thorough knowledge of Industrial Engineering concepts, practices, and principles
  • Knowledge or experience with applied Manufacturing Science (capacity modeling, scheduling, inventory management, theory of constraints, queuing theory etc.)
  • Knowledge or experience with Kaizen, 5S and Lean manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge or experience with statistical analysis
  • Knowledge or experience with automated report building
  • Knowledge of experience with AutoCAD
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal, interpersonal, written)
  • Strong project management skills
  • BS with 5+ years of experience, MS preferred
  • Must be a strong team player, detail oriented, and perform well under pressure
  • Ability to self-learn and use software models to solve problems
  • Previous experience in a semiconductor environment is a plus
  • Excel macro, SQL, and programing experience is a plus

Develops plant and equipment layout, capacity plans, workflow and accident prevention measures to maintain efficient and safe utilization of plant facilities.
