The Quality Systems Engineer reports to the Director of Quality Systems in planning, coordinating and directing the quality assurance programs and systems designed to ensure outstanding business performance, design and manufacturing consistent with established standards by performing the duties listed below.



Position Main Responsibilities

Quality System Development, Deployment and Maintenance

  • Ensure the integrity of the quality management systems.
  • Propose process improvement opportunities based on continued analysis and monitoring of metrics, goals and objectives.
  • Generate/maintain procedures, work instructions and forms, as necessary to ensure standardization of practices across Skyworks.
  • Manage calibration of equipment and instruments for designated site.
  • Work with the Director of Quality to incorporate necessary automotive and IATF 16949 specific requirements and controls into Skyworks Quality Management System.
  • Help review, catalog and deploy automotive customer specific requirements.
  • Act as core business process coordinator to help lead IATF 16949 deployment across multiple sites.
  • Support QMS improvement projects as needed
  • Maintain local quality systems metrics monthly and manage actions when corresponding goals are missed.
  • Present applicable quality systems metrics and feedback to Quality Systems Management and other management for routine meetings and management reviews.
  • Manage and maintain management review, operations review or staff meetings minutes and issue associated action items for missed goals.
  • Provide QMS platform administrative support as needed (Doc Control, CAR/PAR, Internal Audit, CCB).
  • Manage and develop staff members (if applicable).
  • Support Core Business Process Owners in the understanding, deployment and maintenance of QMS related controls.
  • Guide QMS users from designated site(s) to ensure compliance to QMS related standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage Calibration program at designated site(s).
    • Work with Equipment Owners/Laboratory Managers to maintain calibration status of critical equipment through onsite calibration and external vendors. Assist in determination of calibration needs for new equipment.
    • Assist with management of offsite and onsite calibration activities as needed.
    • Work with Quality Systems Management and Equipment Owners to determine calibration needs for annual budgeting
    • Provide audit support with regards to Calibration Program
  • Manage internal audit program (i.e. first party audits)
    • Schedule internal audits per designated procedure covering all applicable core processes and shifts at designated sites.
    • Prepare and perform the scheduled audits (or worked with volunteer auditors to prepare/perform these audits).
    • Write up/send the audit report and CARs/PARs, as applicable, and follow up on all audit findings (Deficiencies and Opportunities), to ensure containment and improvement actions had been determined, recorded, implemented and evaluated for effectiveness.
    • Conduct training for lead/volunteer auditors, as needed.
  • Facilitate Customer audits as needed (i.e. second-party audits)
    • Review audit agenda and work with customer to address any issues
    • Schedule meetings with affected individuals to support agenda
    • Accompany customer throughout audit process to support audit objectives
    • Process audit report and any required CARs or PARs in quality system database
    • Provide feedback to customers or customer representatives to process closure of audit event
  • Support Quality Certification / Surveillance audits (i.e. third-party audits)
    • Review audit agenda and ensure applicable core business processes are being covered and work with registrar to address any issues
    • Schedule meetings with affected core business process owners to support agenda
    • Accompany auditor throughout audit process to support audit objectives
    • Process audit report and any required CARs or PARs in quality system database
    • Manage follow up activities with registrar
  • Change Control Board
    • Coordinate CCB / PCN activities including scheduling of CCBs, tracking open action items to completion, capturing and giving decision on changes, tracking customer's approval, responsible for the notification to task owners to deploy changes and track changes through completion
  • Corrective / Preventive Actions (CAPA)
    • Responsible to coordinate and facilitate problem solving activities (i.e. 8D responses, Five Why analysis, Fishbone diagrams) for CAPAs issued.
    • Ensure cycle time goals are achieved.
    • Provide training and guidance as required.
  • Provide QMS training to individuals as needed to facilitate QMS deployment and maintenance.
  • Provide IATF 16949 training to core business process owners.
  • Customer Specific Requirements
    • Review Customer requirements as needed
    • If gaps are identified, provide analysis and reconcile before closure.
    • Identify where within the QMS customer specific requirements are being addressed.
    • Communicate customer specific requirements to applicable core business process owners.

  • Superior communications skills. Must be able to communicate and articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and, in writing
  • Strong problem-solving skills (5 why analysis, 8D, cause-effect analysis, etc.)
  • Able to relate to individuals at different levels within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build cross-functional teams and manage complex multi-tasked activities.
  • Some domestic and international travel required


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required
  • ASQ Certification (e.g. CQA, CQE, CQMgr) preferred

Years of Experience

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in Quality Systems deployment and management preferred


  • Experience with ISO 9001 required
  • Experience with IATF 16949 required
  • Understanding of Automotive Core Tools (Advanced Product Quality Planning & Control Plan (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA). required
  • Experience working in semiconductor design and manufacturing preferred


  • Certified ISO 9001:2015 Auditor
  • Certified IATF 16949:2016 Auditor
