Sr. Process Engineer

The Process Engineering group at Skyworks in Woburn, Massachusetts is responsible for developing and supporting all wafer fabrication etch processes used to produce Skyworks’ diverse portfolio of products.  The Etch group works closely with the Manufacturing Operations team, Device Integration and Advanced Technology Development team to develop technologies to deliver world-class quality products to market.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Operations synergistically to optimize the overall performance of the Dry and wet Etch area and enhance the skills/knowledge of Operations personnel
  • Take ownership of the unit processes in the Dry and Wet Etch section while driving continuous improvement
  • Support daily production to ensure on-time-delivery of high quality product.  This includes disposition of held lots and prescribing appropriate rework processing as necessary.  May require leading a team to rapidly contain yield/quality excursions and drive corrective actions
  • Participate in fab-wide/section-specific continuous improvement efforts affecting key metrics
  • Build teamwork and cohesiveness within the group, and champion collaboration between engineering groups to improve the wellbeing and performance of the overall organization
  • Support Advanced Technology Development projects by developing and thoroughly characterizing robust unit processes as building blocks of next generation technologies.

Qualifications

  • At a minimum, a BS/MSc/PhD. in engineering, physics, chemistry, material science or related discipline
  • At least 4-6 years of experience in process engineering with primary experience in dry etch (Si, SiOx, SiN, Metals, Polyimide, GaAs, InGaAs, Ti, TiW), Wet cleans/Wet etch and solvent strips
  • Knowledge of III-V compound semiconductor devices particularly Gallium Arsenide 
  • Expert level understanding of etch related equipment
  • The hired candidates must possess strong analytical and design-of-experiment knowledge, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability and willingness to work in a cleanroom semiconductor processing environment
  • Familiar with metrology such as optical microscopes, SEM, TEM, EDX/EELS, FIB, EDX, Ellipsometry, Reflectometry and profilometry
  • Advanced knowledge and practical experience applying SPC, DOE and ANOVA
  • Advanced data analysis skills using tools such as JMP, Exensio 
  • Experience in creating, documenting, maintaining and approving work instructions
  • Team player with experience driving for improved process control and rapidly containing yield/quality excursions, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering peer groups to influence change and drive improvements in a dynamic and collaborative environment that values lasting results
  • Ability to work with other engineering resources across various shifts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $110,600$210,600 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
