Description
The Trade Classification Analyst will support global trade compliance operations by ensuring accurate and compliant classification of products, technology, and software under international trade and export control regulations. This role requires a strong technical understanding of semiconductor components, materials, and manufacturing processes to assign proper Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Schedule B, and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs) with precision and consistency.
The position is open to any U.S. Skyworks location, preferably Woburn, Austin or Irvine.
Responsibilities
- Analyze detailed semiconductor product specifications, schematics, and datasheets to determine correct HTS, Schedule B, and ECCN classifications for hardware, materials, and technology within EAR Categories 3, 4, and 5.
- Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to understand design functions, materials composition, and end-use applications to guide accurate export jurisdiction and control decisions.
- Develop and maintain classification records in compliance systems (e.g., SAP).
- Assess and update classifications in response to product revisions, tariff updates, or regulatory changes under BIS, DDTC, and Wassenaar Arrangement frameworks.
- Conduct internal audits and respond to CBP or BIS classification inquiries and requests for information.
- Provide technical training to internal stakeholders on classification principles, semiconductor-specific ECCN interpretation, and export documentation accuracy.
- Coordinate with logistics, customs, and licensing teams to ensure seamless alignment between shipment documents, country of origin, and classification records.
- Support automation initiatives and system optimization projects to enhance global trade data quality.
Required Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Electronics, Computer, or Materials Engineering, Physics, or Business Administration with related technical work experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in semiconductor or electronics trade compliance, classification, or export control roles.
- Strong working knowledge of the U.S. EAR, CCL, and HTS Chapters 84, 85, and 90.
- Skilled in translating complex technical descriptions into accurate regulatory classifications.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
Desired Experience and Skills
- Proficiency with Excel and trade compliance systems (SAP, OCR, or similar).
- Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Export Specialist credential.
- In-depth understanding of ECCNs under Category 3 and HTS codes related to integrated circuits, epitaxial wafers, and electronic assemblies.
- Experience supporting classification automation or machine learning projects for trade data.
- Prior participation in BIS audits or semiconductor-focused Tariff classification reviews.
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $77,900 - $142,900 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
