The Technical Director, Semiconductor Manufacturing Systems is a strategic and highly specialized role responsible for the overall technical direction, implementation, and optimization of Manufacturing Systems (FDC/YMS/R2R/ADC/RTD/Scheduling/Digital Twin) within a semiconductor manufacturing (fab) environment. This leader ensures the Mfg. Systems & Controls effectively manages complex semiconductor processes, maintains stringent quality control, and integrates seamlessly with highly automated factory equipment and enterprise systems.

As the sr. leader, Mfg. Systems & Controls, you'll be implementing/interfacing with the PROMIS MES & other enterprise systems and supporting the operations of the factory floors. The strategic outcome is to maintain a highly available system, modernize the manufacturing controls and make information readily available for regulatory compliance, supply chain monitoring and improving manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include leading a team of systems admins, managing the operational support, maintenance, incident management, and continuous improvement development activities for the manufacturing systems at the factory locations.
The position includes managerial responsibilities with in-depth hands-on technical and functional expertise. The manager will work with the IT, business leaders, consultants, and end users to resolve issues, implement solutions from concept through implementation, and provide ongoing support and training.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Roadmap & Vision: Define and drive the long-term strategic roadmap for the Systems & Controls landscape within the semiconductor fabrication process, ensuring alignment with business goals for efficiency, yield improvement, and technological advancements (Industry 4.0).
- Technical Leadership & Architecture: Serve as the lead solution architect for the Systems, overseeing design, development, and maintenance of the system. This includes ensuring system reliability and availability, scalability, and performance in a demanding 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Deep Semiconductor Process Integration: Ensure the Systems solutions meet the unique and rigorous requirements of semiconductor manufacturing, including full material traceability at the individual wafer or lot level, equipment management, recipe management, and real-time data collection from highly automated equipment via protocols like SECS/GEM.
- Team Management and Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of multi-national specialized engineers, developers, and analysts, establishing best practices for software development, code reviews, and quality assurance. Lead a team
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between fab operations, engineering teams, IT infrastructure, and quality assurance to gather requirements, resolve complex issues, and drive digital transformation initiatives.
- Prioritize incoming requests and incidents, assists in prioritizing key initiatives, and communicates system changes to stakeholders prior to deployment of new solutions
- Manage and resolve conflicts with understanding and professionalism
- Collaborate with Automation Engineers, Process Engineers, Industrial Engineers, and operations teams
- Project and Vendor Management: Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of large-scale projects and upgrades. Manage relationships with key software vendors (e.g., Camline, AMAT, Inficon, Onto) and external consultants.
- Continuously assess project roadblocks and constraints and provide feedback to senior management
- Experience managing contractual agreements with vendor
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all MES solutions meet rigorous quality standards and regulatory requirements specific to semiconductor and electronics manufacturing (e.g., GAMP 5 (Good Automated Manufacturing Practice 5), SPC/Statistical Process Control, quality checklists).
- Maintain process, data flows and integration documentation in area of responsibility
- Be a resource for setting up Product Data Management including Bills of Materials, Primary Procedures, Routings and Recipes
Required Experience and Skills
- Education: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (Computer Science, Electrical, or Materials Science preferred) or a related technical field is required.
- Experience:

- Minimum of 15+ years of experience in managing and implementing enterprise systems within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. Previous experience managing a MES in a 24x7 manufacturing environment. Strong functional knowledge and experience in best practices and business practices with MES and other related systems.
- Significant, hands-on technical experience with a major platform is required, specifically within the semiconductor or electronics manufacturing industry.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and complex system deployments. Especially experience managing and leading a national and/or multi-national team of MES experts
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in MES platforms used in semiconductor fabs (e.g., Siemens Opcenter Execution (Camstar), SiView, Promis, Critical Manufacturing, etc.).
- Strong technical understanding and hands-on experience with relevant programming languages and technologies (.NET, C#, SQL, JavaScript).
- In-depth knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and automation protocols (e.g., SECS/GEM).
- Familiarity with data analytics tools, database management, and IT/OT integration.
- Leadership Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking capabilities. Strong communication, presentation, and cross-functional leadership skills are essential for collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment
This leadership position balances strategic planning with operational oversight, working in both office and highly controlled cleanroom/fab environments. The role is demanding, requiring adaptability to rapid technological advancements and the ability to drive high-impact solutions in a fast-paced, 24/7 production setting. This role will also require extensive amount of travel to SGP, JPN and within the USA
Desired Experience and Skills
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $170,100 - $339,500 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
